Toronto-based duo aiwake share the new ‘Tonight (Sundown)’ video, via Majestic Casual.
Straight from the minds of Dorian Voos and Euan Robertson, the aiwake sound is synonymous with unique rhythms, haunting vocals, and a freshness that exists at the core of this musical partnership.
The latest single ‘Tonight (Sundown)’ is no exception to this, with the emotional and darker aspects of their production on display. Existing between electronica and rnb, the duo are able to channel feelings of despair and melancholy alongside nostalgia and hope. Dance-able yet brooding, ‘Tonight (Sundown)’stands apart for the average, as uplifting downtempo with intricate syncopation and gritty dissonance.
The new video takes the viewer on a journey in to the depths of aiwake‘s live performance and lays bare the vulnerability of the duo’s songwriting.
On the video, aiwake add – “Many of the live sessions that you watch try to create an atmosphere that fits the song, often not managing to push the envelope enough, creating a visual that feels stagnant. We wanted to elevate what the live session could be, so we reimagined it with a one take story. Not the typical story filled with dialogue but built through mood. This allowed us to tell the tale of something larger. It gave us the ammunition to create something of emotional substance while highlighting the performative aspect of aiwake.”
