Rising Leeds act POLO – comprised of Kat McHugh, Luke Lount and Daniel Egdell -follow their critically-acclaimed recent release “Death of Me” with their brand new offering “Hula” – a dark, driving, melodic pop heater that underlines the reputation they’re building as one of the city’s most exciting breakout names.
It’s a charismatic and polished new single that balances a sultry, commanding vocal with the kind of finessedproduction that’s come to define the band’s layered, sophisticated sound. Centred around McHugh’s experiences of being drawn though an exhilarating and bewitching night. Speaking on the track, Kat states:“Hula explores the line between fantasy and reality, through my experiences of a wild and unpredictable evening. I wrote the lyrics to this song after a surreal first encounter. The fun really started when we knew there were no trains back from where we were, and we would just have to see where the night took us.”
Balancing the natural song-writing ability and ear for a hook with frank, confessional lyricism, Polo are set to continue the natural intrigue forming around them. With a new UK tour on the horizon, get ready to hear a lot more from this thrilling new three-piece.
