Aquilo (Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher) break their silence by sharing the long-awaited new single ‘Sober’. The song is the title track to their new EP of the same name, which follows on June 3rd.
‘Sober’ finds Aquilo embracing a warm, organic sound. Soothing vocal harmonies, elegant piano and raw beats provide the foundations of their sonic approach. Yet the production by Jack Sibley complements their naturalistic style with some subtle electro flourishes that give it another layer of depth.
Lyrically the song examines a romance that’s plunged into doubt. They cleverly use the odd sensation of sobering up as a metaphor for discovering that a relationship isn’t quite what you thought it was.
