With arms wide open, ‘Bless Her Soul’ welcomes its listener into MALIKA’s new sound. This stripped-back re-imagination of the original really shines a light on MALIKA’s raw vocal talent and her innate ability to connect emotion with music. With instrumentation reduced to the tender taps of a piano, provided by Morgan Alexander-Green. and gospel-tinged backing vocals, the delivery of the track’s sentiment is undoubtedly heightened to an awe-inspiring climax.

Explaining her reasoning behind the acoustic take, MALIKA digresses; “‘I decided to do an acoustic version of ‘Bless Her Soul’ after doing a live session and performing it live, people really seemed to be connecting to the words and the meaning of the stripped back version of the song. I say I make music for women, not to alienate men, but because a lot of my songs have come from my experiences in life as a woman, and even though this song is called ‘Bless Her Soul’ the general message is about self-belief, hope, and the ability we all have to overcome adversities, however you identify, and so think the stripped back version allows the listener to really hear that message and find their own meaning in the song.”

With Wonderland Magazine having premiered the official music video for ‘Bless Her Soul’ and describing MALIKA as “redefining British Soul” and as “one to watch”, the release of the acoustic falls into safe hands and firm foundations.

Previous releases ‘Bless Her Soul’ and ‘Stuck On You’ have already colectively garnered the due acclaim across the board, with praise from Clash Magazine, WordPlay Mag, Wonderland, BBC Radio 1, 1xtra and Apple Music’s Rebecca Judd.
