Picking up steam as an artist to watch, Southern alt rocker Willy Cobb serves up a smoking and scorching new EP entitled Country Punkin’ out now via War Buddha / Warner Records.
The project continues to distinguish him as a sonic maverick armed with country grit, rock ‘n’ roll spirit, punk fire, and a psychedelic perspective all his own. Among many highlights, fuzzed-out guitar underlines shoegaze vocals on “Burnin’.“ Emotion overflows from the climactic chorus, “But every other thing you said is burnin’ through my head.“Then, there’s “Daddy On Drugs.“ Relaying a dark little tale, a loose riff snakes around the beat as he exhales, “Daddy on drugs, hate it to break it to you.” Cut from a different cloth, the five-track EP affirms Willy as a new kind of musical outlaw.
He bulldozed the way for the project with “Sincerely FU.” Earlier this year, Willy Cobb lit up the introductory single “Cigarette Smell,” which garnered widespread critical acclaim. Rolling Stone touted it among “All the Songs You Need to Know This Week.” Plus, NOTION sat down with him for an in-depth interview and professed, “the single sees Willy Cobb at his best.“
Not to mention, Willy has recently shared the stage with Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters and The Cadillac Three across North America and Europe.
