The Exact Opposite

new single FFS by exciting Oxfordshire, UK alternative post-punk duo The Exact Opposite.

The Exact Opposite release the third single FFS through Dental Records on 9th August. FFS is taken from their spectacular debut album Skill Issue (“militant, defiant indie guitar rock“ – OMS Magazine, “a marvellous thing” – Nightshift). Between singer/guitarist Jamie Stuart and drummer/multi-instrumentalist Nigel Powell they have a long musical pedigree – together in underground indie heroes Dive Dive, and separately in Dustball, Unbelievable Truth, The Sad Song Co.and Frank Turner And The Sleeping Souls. According to Jamie, “FFS is something I mutter under my breath with increasing and alarming frequency. I wrote this song about making the same mistakes over and over and not learning from it, which would generate an FFS.

Then I realized that I’d written songs on this theme before, which generated an FFS. Then I realized I don’t really care, which also generates an FFS.” “I had the lyrics lined up before I had any music. One day I detuned my guitar with the hope of writing something sinister and slightly heavier and accidentally wrote this bright hopeful piece of music, so another fail, hence FFS got laid on top of it. The Exact Opposite of my intent.” An inventive video is released the same day, following up the video for previous single Look At Him Go!that has racked up nearly 40,000 views on YouTube.

The new video, conceived and directed by Nigel, suits the song’s vibe – driving with the top down feel good hit of the summer. Not that shooting it was easy for Jamie: “I was just told to put a box on my head and wander around various locations with varying levels of embarrassment and was assured it would all make sense in the end. Strangely enough I felt less self conscious in the shopping centre than the majority of the people there. It was a lot of fun.”
