Passenger has always excelled at crafting music which unlocks emotions in listeners – sometimes sorrowful or heartbroken, at others joyous and uplifting. But with today’s release of his new album, ‘Wild Love’, he presents the most personal collection of songs of his storied career.
The follow-up to 2021’s ‘Songs For The Drunk and Broken Hearted’ which hit #2 in the UK and went Top 10 across Europe, ‘Wild Love’ tells of big changes in Passenger’s life: a new relationship, a marriage, and – for the first time – fatherhood. It’s a journey that the album documents – the excitement, the upheaval, the trepidation, and the joy.
Passenger – Mike Rosenberg – says, “I wasn’t sure I’d get to have a family. The idea of not having one was something I’d started to accept, but then, lo and behold, it happened. In a really romantic, weirdly Hollywood way. It turned out that the love of my life had been there the whole time.”
The singles that have preceded the album have introduced episodic moments of the broader story. First there was ‘It Was Gonna Be You’, a reminder from previous relationships that what feels good in the moment doesn’t always last. Then there was ‘Boomerang’, a song written back when he was still hoping to find a love that would bring with it an inner peace. And most recently there was ‘Ghosts’, a poignant realisation that you have to fully let go of the past to move on to something new.
The album’s title track and focus song captures the turning point of the relationship. It’s the moment in which Passenger realised he was in too deep to not reach for the fairytale at his fingertips while softly praying that all goes to plan. Backed by spectral, piano-backed instrumentation that grows in stature in tandem with its heightened feelings, he realises the truth of the situation, singing, “I can’t lose this now, so I’ll have to let it win.”
Its accompanying video plays to the solitude and the romance of the situation that the song addresses. It is serene in its simplicity, withPassenger performing alone as waves gently drift into the beach around him.
He adds, “Wild Love is the title track because it sums up the theme of the album. Do you give in to your doubts and do nothing, or do you face your fears and go for it? I wrote the song as I was realising that the choice was obvious.”
And there’s much more to discover among the new material that features on the album. Other highlights include ‘Caution To The Wind’,the moment in which embracing a new love is simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying, and a sumptuous cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Willow’ – a song that soundtracked the couple’s growing love.
Physical copies of ‘Wild Love’ are available HERE. A selection of stunning formats include a gatefold coloured vinyl in two exclusive colours, a natural and a white vinyl available from select indie stores, and a deluxe hardcover book CD.
‘Wild Love’ represents a new stage in Passenger’s chart-topping, multi-Platinum and Ivor Novello-winning career. The campaign ahead of its release has delivered many new memorable moments, including a sold-out homecoming show at Hove Park, busking outside the Tate Modern to a huge crowd, and two shows at arguably the most scenic venue in the UK, the Minack Theatre on the Cornish coast.
The ‘Wild Love’ adventure continues deep into 2027 with an extensive headline tour that visits the UK, Europe and Australia. Remaining tickets for the dates listed below are available HERE.
