ZILM
The EP Funk The System by Zilm is a unique, fascinating portrait of an artist embracing diversity. Moving between Buckethead like solos to funky grooves to rap, this album showcases his immense talent. Although the opening instrumental track “The Least II” softly grooves and winds through a nice melody, Zilm is equally comfortable laying down a serious rap. “Life is Like” features him rapping while playing some tasty guitar pieces, especially the jazzy solo that ends the track. I particularly liked “London BonBon”, a rolling barrelhouse tune played on piano that merges into a crunchy, feedback-laden guitar solo. All in all, the four track EP never fails to entertain or intrigue.
