Victoria based singer-songwriter Rachel Caddy is set to release her newest single Reach For You, a powerful track written from the remnants of a break up and pieced together in a defiant but sensitive way.

Reach For You was self-penned by Rachel in 2016, when she started writing it as a means of “expressive therapy” before refining it to completion. The song has imagery wound throughout it, bitterly detailing the desperation of holding onto something that isn’t there: “take my soul…’cause I’ve been living fine without”. The song however is far from defeated, depicting a determination and intensity behind the brokenness. With an honesty that leaves no stone unturned the song is a moving, breath-taking track.

Produced by Benjamin McCarthy (Alex the Astronaut, Gordi) and Alt/ Country singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Chris Pickering, Reach For You explores both ends of the scale, from delicate to powerful. The Single will be available to stream and download from the 30th of March along with a Melbourne live show to celebrate its release.

Rachel’s style expands across different genres, making her fanbase eclectic and varying. Growing up listening to a range of artists, beginning with the likes of The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel through the influence of her parents, her influences then moved through pop and onto Alternative. Her songwriting explores both ends of the scale from delicate to powerful, and she paints the imagery in these songs vividly – drawn from life and nature, loss and small victories.

Rachel began to grow a passion for song-writing and her own music shifted into alternative, taking inspiration from folk artists such as Australian Josh Pyke and more recently local Alternative acts such as Ainslie Wills and Alt/Rock bands like Nothing But Thieves. The result is a genuine songwriting style, blending indie folk with contrasting writhing bass, powerful drums and spaced-out psychedelic guitar parts.
