Beyond the Picture, are an alternative rock quartet from Adelaide, Australia, who encompass a wide range of influences into one original sound, most notably on their newly released single Fox and the Hound.
Fox and the Hound is best characterised by it’s danceable beat and bass lines and an array of catchy melodies. Neatly juxtaposed with songwriting that longs for the unattainable, most highlighted by the spirited vocal performances from Josh and Claudia. The lyrics like the title, profile two opposing characters and their differing thoughts on the relationship as they realise their identities through a non-narrative form. The production is also worthy to note, for the balancing act of all the song’s layers and emphasising them to their potential.
Beyond the Picture is the culmination of four passionate musicians; lead vocalist/guitarist Josh Watson, vocalist/keyboardist Claudia Gill, drummer Harry Tuck and bassist Evan Grear. Initially a three piece, the four piece exhibit an original sound, taking influence primarily from the likes of Radiohead and Arcade Fire but also a wide range of others. That sound is showcased on their newly released single Fox and the Hound, which seamlessly experiments with an assortment of ideas within the context of an indie pop rock song.
“Fox and the Hound most obviously makes use of the classic book and movie, by giving a fractured detail of the minds of two very different people. A metaphor much like the source, about how those differences make for a melting pot of a relationship that could never be as they come to terms with their own nature. A very different song by my standards both lyrically and musically, but one I’m proud of nonetheless. ” – Josh Watson
Fox and the Hound was recorded and produced at Blessed is the Reverb studio, owned and operated by Adelaide producer/ex member of Big Things Flying Dean Edwards. And was mastered by Neville Clark (Hilltop Hoods, The Beards, Drapht) at his studio Disk Edits in the winter and spring of 2018.
Beyond the Picture have played regularly around their home of Adelaide including support slots for The Getaway Plan, The Montreals and Pludo.
