Having gone through an emotional year with the breakup of his band, the loss of a friend and a personal bout with his mental health, Cap Carter bounces back with a return to his singer-songwriter origins bringing along with him a fusion of R&B and indie-rock in his transcendent single Thrill.
In August 2018, Cap Carter travelled to the UK to record with Macklemoreproducer, iSaintJames. The two had met on Instagram one year before and bonded after sharing about each other’s personal struggles with life, mental health, loss of loved ones and the passion to keep music alive. The chemistry and connection between the two artists resulted in Cap’s five track EP. Recorded in a small shed in rural Hertfordshire, Cap Carter’s debut single Thrill is an ode to loss, love and the hope of healing after brokenness.
“I was by myself for a long time that year. Locked myself up internally and tried to figure out what the hell was going on with life. I was angry, frustrated and tired about getting nowhere as a musician and as a person. So I did what anyone else would do, I wrote. Lost count of the bottles and I screamed every word til I felt like my soul was healing. That is what my music is – a soul cleanse. A plea for some sort of tourniquet to stop the bleeding.” – Cap Carter
Through the grind of various open mic nights and supports, Cap honed his ability to bare his soul through his impassioned vocals and raw, stripped-back acoustics. His ability led him to secure the support act for international superstar, Gavin James at his Sydney show. Gavin James was discovered by Ed Sheeran and later went on to support for Adele, Taylor Swift and Ed himself.
Cap Carter is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist known for his soul vocals and emotive lyrics. Born in Manila and raised in Western Sydney, Carter’s writing style is reminiscent of the haunting and soulful melodies of Joni Mitchell and George Michael and later being influenced by the introspective lyrical narratives of Paul Simon. Not just a fan-boy of singer-songwriters, Cap’s love for the urban scene drew him to producers, Scott Storch and Kanye West which nurtured his unique and raw ability to write original tunes.
And now, having faced himself, Cap Carter is ready to face the world and start his next chapter. Thrill comes to you with its assertive emotional peaks and rock solid sense of purpose. Cap Carter has taken control, cleansed his soul and given us a pop gem.
