Rising songstress Carmody has charmed fans across the globe since her recording debut with Tom Misch on the highly acclaimed ‘Out To Sea’ EP. After teasing the prospect of a new release with a recent string of singles, the talented artist now unveils her much anticipated EP “Catching Blue”.
Breaking new ground, “Catching Blue” explores the deepest depths of sadness and melancholy through Carmody’s candid song writing and delicate, moving vocals. Working with Nathan Williams as well as longtime collaborator Jasper Tygner, Carmody’s poignant lyrics are elevated by the beautifully executed production, all recorded in a makeshift studio at the bottom of her garden.
Evolving from the ethereal, synth-laden ‘Dreamweaver’, described as “wonderful” by Elbow’s Guy Garvey, through to the heartbreaking ‘Being Without You’, and finally culminating in stirring acoustic guitar on ‘Static’, this EP is a sophisticated, vulnerable and open-hearted exploration of some of our most difficult emotional experiences.
Speaking about her latest project, Carmody shared:
“’Catching Blue’ is about five different kinds of sadness, dealing with loss in its various forms. Through this project I learnt that I could write about more than love, I’ve covered a lot of newground, subjects I never imagined I could be singing about. Such as depression, grief and two songs where I explore whether my love for song writing is strong enough to work in such a mentally challenging and saturated industry. These songs have taken a long time to come to fruition, but it feels cathartic for them to finally leave my mind.”
Having already gotten the support from critically acclaimed tastemakers like WONDERLAND, DUMMY, NOTION and THE LINE OF BEST FIT as well as support from BBC R1, RADIO 6M, BBC Radio London, 1Xtra and BBC Introducing, “Catching Blue” is set to be a stellar landmark in Carmody’s already fruitful career and will surely make her a definitive talent to watch out for.
