Independent Australian-Swiss singer-songwriter and producer Dave Curl is taking his listeners for a ride with his new single, ‘Riders’, slated for release on October 10, 2024 via Running Wild Records. Boasting over 1.5 million streams on Spotify, airplay on numerous indie radio stations worldwide, his recent releases, Lockdown – Seven Nations (album) and ‘Don’t Talk Anymore’ (single) garnered support from renowned publications NOTION Magazine and EARMILK. His latest single showcases his versatility as an artist in his transition to a more mellow sound than the blistering, rebellious rock and roll of his previous tracks.
Dave Curl‘s soulful and authentic folk-pop-rock sound has its own unique alternative kick, adding something ineffable which gives it an edge over others in the genre. A child of the 80s and 90s, he draws influence from giants of the era such as Sting, Eurythmics and Brian Adams, as well as luminary songwriters of today, such as Ed Sheeran and John Mayor. Having previously been compared to the likes of Milow and Bono, Dave Curl’s sound is a soulful mix of folk, pop, and rock, with his latest track sure to ensnare fans of breezy, gentle music from the likes of Jack Johnson, The Beach Boys and The Buttertones.
A departure from the rebellious rock of his previous tracks, ‘Riders’ sees Dave Curl taking a turn in a breezy surf-rock direction as he sings contentedly over gentle shakers, reverb-soaked guitar strums, a warm, meandering bass, and tasty, groovy guitar licks. It’s a song to relax to, whether you’re peacefully driving your car on a sunny day, putting your feet up after a long day at work, or floating peacefully over a gentle swell.
Dave Curl shared: “It is a wonderful surf song that captures the spirit of surfing and has a catchy chorus. I have been a “holiday-surfer” myself for 20 years now and I am glad to call myself a “happy intermediate”:) The idea for this song came to me when I was surfing with the crew of the surfschool ‘Riders’ in October 2023 – a surf school based in the small town of El Cotillo on the north-west coast of Fuerteventura, a Canary island known for its endless coastline of waves. The song catches those beautiful moments that only surfing can bring you – after many hours of pain and frustration, ha, ha.”
