David Jacobson and the Space Wizards
The latest release from David Jacobson and the Space Wizards is a collection of live, unedited tunes. Influenced by 60s & 70s psychedelia/rock, the songs have a Neil Young vibe with their high pitched vocals and grungy guitar feedback. Most notable, the intensity of the vocals on “Pony Boy” and “Dance Blues” are only matched by the gritty guitar playing. Though earlier work seems more blues-driven, this release most assuredly mines the influences of Tonight’s the Night and Live Rust, but not derivatively. Due to the well-crafted, personal lyrics “Stars Shine Forever” lingers in the memory. Rather than distracting one, the roughness of recording and production enables the album to hang together nicely. Consequently we get a very cohesive, consistent recording.
