Ghana is home to many staples of African music. From the jazz and swing-tinged pop in the 1960s, all the way down to hip-life’s prominence in the 90s — it’s fair to say the West African nation is the culture’s beating heart. Enter DJ Paak. With over a decade’s worth of graft in the Ghanaian music scene, it’s fair to say the disk jockey (born Paa Kwesi Kwarteng Darko) has earned his stripes. The famed DJ has returned with an ensemble remix of his standout 2021 track, ‘We Meuve’.
The song — co-produced by Baman Beatz — sees Paak tap TheOnlyRLS, Mr. Oulala, Eddie Khae, Mr. Drew and Patapaa for the party anthem. Musically, ‘We Meuve (Remix)’ sees the GDJ Award-winning DJ deploy a thick bassy instrumental, shimmering with glossy horns and infectious percussion.
Speaking on the ‘We Meuve’ remix, DJ Paak said: “The song was created as a movement to bring positivity, and encourage people to deter from negative vibes. It’s all about looking towards the future and taking it one step at a time and remembering to have fun whilst you do it.”
Last year, Paak’s original iteration of ‘We Meuve’ found virality online. The OG track is bubbling just under 150,000 streams on Spotify alone. One year after its initial release and summer right around the corner, it’s only right for Paak to revisit the Afrobeat heater.
Paak stumbled across his love for music from a child when he heard his neighbour DJing and later grew a fond interest in collecting music, taking after his father. Swiftly establishing himself as a multi-genre DJ, the 29-year-old star has since opened up for a laundry list of artists including: Mr Eazi, Sarkodie, Eugy Official, Stonebwoy, Kwesi Arthur, King Promise, Kidi, Kuami Eugene, B4Bonah, Mr Drew, Davido, Wande Coal, R2Bees, Sneakbo, Joey B, D Black, and many more.
Throughout his career, the turntable technician has bagged nominations for Best DJ at the 2019 GMA UK Awards and the Best International Ghanian DJ at the 2020 GDJ Awards: and that’s just a couple of Paak’s accolades. With more music on the way, Paak is on a mission to solidify his legendary status.
