Interview with Farida
Hailing from the small town of Gjøvik, the Norwegian/ Algerian singer-songwriter says she reps for the independent ladies on her latest offering.
Hello Farida I have to start off by saying it’s a honor. Young minds is one of my favorite songs and you have had so much success with solo ride My first question is Did you know that this song would be so impactful when it was being created?
1.) I had no idea anything I did would be impactful, but I think that’s probably why they sometimes turn out like that. Maybe cause we decide to not put the pressure on ourselves, and instead decides to just be in the spirit and love what we do. But I am very grateful that people like what they here, that’s the whole point.
The viewers would like to know if you will be working with Mogilla here in the near future?
2.) I am currently working with Mogilla, that’s my friend, we will probably always try to make something new and fun!
Are you Originally from Norway?
3.) I am originally from Norway, but my dad is from Algeria, so I’m 50& Viking and 50% arab. Doesn’t get more exotic than that does it? haha
What can you remember about music growing up? ” what were some of your favorite songs”
4.) Man, so much. I used to listen to a lot of blues, gospel and pop. I feel like I was very influenced by the music my mom and dag introduced me to, like Elmore James, Ray Charles, Whitney Houston, The Temptations and so forth. On my own discovery it was Craig David, Aaliyah, Christina Aguilera, Katie Melua, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake who were a part of my list. I’ve always been very interested in different genres and I like to explore so I guess that’s why it’s hard for me to stick one specific genre, rather just try to find my sound instead.
When did you realize that you had a gift at making music and wanted to take it full time? How hard was it?
5.) I realised that I could hit a note without sounding super awful when I was probably like 10 or 11. I didn’t know anything but the fact that It made me feel good. I didn’t know how to pursue it or what I had to do to make it as living, cause a kid you dont really think about those things, you kind of just have fun and wing it, so I try to always remain playful in my music, I dont like when people take it too seriously, I get stressed around that. I’m a creative person, so I like to have no boundaries. But when I got older I did attend music schools and made it more obvious that I wanted to move in that direction. I took me 6 years from my first studio session to me actually getting attention, so the road has been long and hard but so worth it. I’m not even close to where I want to be so I’m just gonna be pushing on.
Could you tell me about your new song New York? What inspired the title? Where can we hear it?
6.) New York is a collaboration between me and a producer named Undr (which also happens to be my boyfriend, haha). He made the beat when we where stranded in NY on our way to Texas SXSW this year, and it basically was one of those times where it just fit, we both had ideas, but a lot of them, so we had to narrow them down and just really give it time. But I love it, its one of my favorites, and I’m happy I go to do it with him. Go check him out, under the name Undr. New York can be heard on Spotify, Soundcloud, iTunes you name it!! :))
