Julia Zahra was born in 1995 in Indianapolis, US as Julia van der Toorn, and was raised in The Netherlands. In 2013 she auditioned in the fourth season of The Voice of Holland with an accoustic guitar version of Britney Spears’ ‘Oops I Did It Again’ (over 6 million streams on Spotify). From that first moment on she was one of the favourites and gained popularity, and won the competition at only 18 years old – the youngest winner thus far. After that she released her debut album.
A year later Julia participated in ‘The Best Singers of The Netherlands’, a Dutch TV competition in which artists perform cover versions of each other’s songs, and won this show as well. In one episode she sang ‘Just an Illusion’ which ended up high in the Dutch iTunes charts in 2015. More than a year later the song was picked up in Fiji, where it still is a top ten song, and eventually all around The Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. You can hear the song also on the radio in L.A., San Francisco and even Canada, and by now it has over 4 million streams on Spotify. Zahra toured around the Pacific for 2 months, amongst other venues playing the Vodafone Arena in Fiji and a sold out Club Royals in Auckland, NZ.
In January 2018 Julia released her EP ‘Something New’, which is a raw and acoustic interpretation of her songs. Currently she is performing live in The Netherlands with her almost sold out The Remedy Tour, and is ready to overwhelm everybody with a new sound and a lot of new tunes.
