Providing us with sun-soaked guitar licks and warm melodies to close the summer season, new boy band on the block King Kuda share their single, ‘Velvet Sun’.
Despite first impressions of euphonous beats and a playful bassline, somewhat akin to early Bombay Bicycle Club, ‘Velvet Sun’ actually reflects a tumultuous struggle of choosing between the hedonist and the moral compass. Narrating this inner conflict, lead singer Ollie’s buttery vocals effortlessly slide across smooth instrumentation to create the perfect closing soundtrack to the summer months.
Speaking on the track themselves, King Kuda explain; “‘Velvet Sun’ is inspired by the inner struggle between doing what feels good and doing what feels right, and how hard it can be to tell the difference. The verses represent the rational, sensible voice in your head, while the chorus encourages you to let go of your anxieties and enjoy the moment.”
The single lands as the third instalment to the bands musical catalogue. Having made a storming entry with their single ‘Wildflower’ which quickly amassed half a million streams across DSP’s, then more recently followed by ‘Bloodstream’ cementing the 4-piece as a band not afraid to break down genre boundaries, the release of ‘Velvet Sun’ comes at an exciting time for King Kuda with firm foundations clearly already set.
