Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, today announces the expanded digital releases of its Luther Vandross album Never Too Much: Greatest Hits featuring a newly uncovered version of Vandross’s rendition of The Beatles’ “Michelle”. Available on all streaming platforms today, the updated digital album also adds the track “If This World Were Mine” by Cheryl Lynn (with Luther Vandross).
The original December 2024 release of Never Too Much: Greatest Hits featured the only known existing version of Vandross’ soulful rendition of “Michelle,” which was found on a cassette in Luther’s archives. Very little was known about this recording, but upon release of the album last year, it was discovered that Luther’s version of “Michelle” was produced by the late great Richard Perry, according to Perry’s associate producer Steve Lindsey. The final version, which was never previously released, is now included on the album.
Lindsey said, “Working with Luther was an honor of a lifetime for me. Richard Perry and I also thought this was our best work together. Having ‘Michelle’ finally come out is a dream come true and proves once again that Luther Vandross is one of the greatest vocalist of all time.”
The updated digital album also features “If This World Were Mine” by Cheryl Lynn (with Luther Vandross), which was recently sampled, including Luther’s vocal, in Kendrick Lamar’s hit “luther.”
Excitement around Luther Vandross continues this year with the global release of Dawn Porter’s acclaimed documentary Luther: Never Too Much. Starting today, the film will return to AMC Theaters in the U.S. from January 31-February 9. Luther: Never Too Much will also premiere on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on Friday, February 7 at 9 pm ET, MAX starting February 8 and on Sky Arts in the UK on Friday, February 14.
