Matt Terry has carved out a distinctive career which has so far been split between two stages. First up was his remarkable breakthrough, in which he achieved 130 million streams for his debut single ‘Sucker For You’, flew up to #3 with the Ed Sheeran-pennned festive hit ‘When Christmas Comes Around’, and scored a Platinum-certified Top 20 single with the Enrique Iglesias / Sean Paul collaboration ‘Sύbeme La Radio’.
Stage two was just as productive. An immensely in-demand collaborator, he arranged and recorded backing vocals for ‘Heartbreak Anthem’, the BRIT-nominated #3 smash from David Guetta, Galantis and Little Mix. He has also found major success in the K-Pop scene, most memorably by co-writing ‘Rock With You’ for SEVENTEEN, the biggest song from their ‘Attaca’ EP which hit #1 in South Korea and Japan as well as Billboard’s World Album chart. In addition, Matt has also written with Dutch dance star MOTi, and played a starring role in the touring production of ‘Rock of Ages’.
But now Matt returns to put his full focus on his solo artist career, starting with Matt’s first major release in over half a decade; ‘You don’t know nothing’.
‘You Don’t Know Nothing’ introduces a more mature sound to what we’ve heard from Matt previously. Moody piano and punchy hip-hop beats work in unison to establish a streetwise swaggering production, a soundbed with a dark pop undercurrent which suits the grittier soul-meets-rock tone of Matt’s voice. His lyrics are just as vehement: if you think you know who Matt Terry is, it’s time to rethink your expectations.
Matt says, “We live in a world where we are all so over accessible, everywhere we look we can keep up with the next person knowing every single detail. That’s not how I choose to live my life, and actually if you really think about it, do we ever know what’s truly happening behind closed doors?
I’ve had one hell of a journey over these past five years that nobody knows anything about, so I’m excited for people to hear this song. It’s bold, gives a little introduction of what’s to come, but most of all, finally, this is a song that has come from the deepest parts of me. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do.”
Matt wrote ‘You Don’t Know Nothing’ with the track’s producer XORO (Tim Kulawik).
There’s plenty more new music on the horizon from Matt, which, like ‘You Don’t Know Nothing’, sees him moving into the most personal and confessional songwriting of his career to date. Since releasing ‘Sucker For You’, Matt has experienced so much across his global adventures in music and acting, and it’s only now that he has had the time to reflect upon everything he has gone through and to channel those times into his own music. Naturally the songs are a level above from anything he has previously released – with many plaudits within the industry.
He concludes, “I’ve spent the last five years travelling the world as a musician and an actor, from international and UK tours to writing and recording for other artists globally. I’ve decided the time is right for me to make my return, release the music I love and step into a new chapter…”
