Having previously toured alongside “The Hold Steady” Mortimer and his band rose from the shadows of the 00s to moderate success in 2007 receiving solid support from Zane Lowe and going on to win a “Diesel U Music Award” later that year for the Best UK Band. Mortimer’s music could be heard blasting out the speakers, from XFM to MTV. The Steers appeared to be on a golden path before disbanding as the various members went on to form separate projects
Mortimer’s now back with his own solo project and ‘The Trigger’ is his fourth single.A song painted with dabs of Oasis and a splash of Miles Kane, it starts with a stuttering riff that reminds me of early Blur before erupting into a jangly Chorus of 00s euphoria. The first release from his songbook this year, and the first of many to come. Mortimer may have been gone for a while, but he’s certainly not lost the passion for good music
