Nat Smithson & Nights on Mayfair is the blend of Nat Smithson’s evocative soul vocals and the Motown inspired sound of Australian soul band Nights on Mayfair. Through their mutual love for classicism and quality, they’ve come together to release the uplifting single What Life Wants For Me.
Nat Smithson is a singer/songwriter/pianist who began her musical journey shortly after leaving high school when she purchased her own equipment, learnt a bunch of tunes and started performing cover shows across Adelaide. Influenced in her earlier years by artists including Kimbra, Emeli Sande and Adele, Nat infused her own style into a variety of pop, soul and RnB tunes.
Nights on Mayfair are made up of a solid rhythm section with bass guitarist Scott, an Aria nominated artist and producer, co-writer and musician, and drummer/percussionist Jed Thomas, (Stonyfell, The Happy Leonards).Having produced, played and recorded with a range of artists (Hilltop Hoods, Lowrider), Scott wanted to continue to create a platform to write and play the type of music he loves and found the inspiration he needed working with Nat and Jed.
During the collaboration process Nat Smithson & Nights On Mayfair used vintage valve and tape equipment to capture the distinct energy of the live performances. The piano was recorded with the studio doors open shortly after a rain shower to capture the birds and street noise, adding vibrancy to the feel good nature of the song.

Scott called in favours from world-renowned musicians to provide additional instrumentation on tracks included on their upcoming EP, most notably featuring string parts by Joni Fuller (Phil Collins, Elton John), Guy Fletcher(Dire Straits)). The song was then mixed in Los Angeles by Grammy nominated Producer and Engineer Beau Vallis (Kelly Rowland, Pharrell, Beyonce, Timbaland) The cumulative energy is rich in feel and exuberantly charming, making What Life Wants For Me an exemplary cut and a natural lead single.
Nat Smithson & Nights on Mayfair released the much-anticipated first teaser single What Life Wants for Me on 7th December.
