New Sincerity Works
Alt-rock Cincinnati band New Sincerity Works explore the world of love and lust in a brilliant collection of new songs. Not always love songs, lead singer/songwriter Mike Tittel describes these ten compositions as ‘trying to describe what falling in and out of love is like and what happens in between those extreme modes of living”. Consequently Wonder Lust is one of the most open, authentic and beautiful albums I’ve heard in ages.
Influenced by The New Pornographers, the band features twangy, sometimes frantic guitar work accented by layers of synth waves as in “The Company We Keep”. “Love to Love the Love” is perhaps my favorite song and best showcases what the band does best: great hooks, multifaceted lyrics, focused melody. Essentially the songs are fun! Bob Nyswonger (pyschodots & The Bears) provides bass, while Roger Klug wows us with his lead guitar work in “Midwest Reverie”. Every tune on Wonder Lust is a winner, a perfect example of pop/rock song writing at its height. Furthermore, I’d rank this album as one of my favorites of the year.

New Sincerity Works was formed in the summer of 2014 by creative powerhouse Mike Tittel. Tittel is ex- Loud Family, current drummer for Roger Klug Power Trio, photographer, artist, and music producer. The band was created in the image of what all bands should look like, themselves. Furthermore, the songs combine modest, heart on your sleeve themes with indie-pop, Americana, and 1980’s guitar/synth driven new wave. A decidedly familiar, yet fresh presentation. The band has invited comparisons to a second distant cousin of Alex Chilton as well as Guided By Voices, Paul Westerberg, Phoenix, and The Postal Service. Perhaps best summarized by a fan from North Carolina “The music is like hearing your best friend sing. And who wouldn’t want to hear that?”
