Having just released her emotionally-charged and instantly classic pop song ‘When You Lose Someone’ which has already had over a million streams, Nina Nesbitt now shares the song’s official video. It represents Nina’s latest visual collaboration with Wolf James after the recent singles ‘Life’s A Bitch’ and ‘Summer Fling’.
The ‘When You Lose Someone’ video is a beautifully depicted visualisation of attempting to come to terms with overwhelming grief. Nina’s raw performance begins with her embracing a mysterious figure as a tear drifts down her face. Quite who or what she is holding onto remains open to interpretation, but as the story unfolds it’s clear that they will be separated. Ultimately she stands alone. Her sense of mourning is palpable, but it is clear that the pain of letting go is a necessary part of the grieving process.
Nina says, “I’m so excited to share the video for When You Lose Someone. It’s one of my favourite videos we’ve shot so far. I wanted to create a visualisation of loss where people are able to imagine whoever they want in the person made of stars. Grief and loss takes many shapes so the video is as much mine as it is the viewer’s.”
The video comes hot on the heels of Nina’s announcement that she will play two intimate shows next month. The dates – The Lexington, London (March 16th) and King Tut’s, Glasgow (March 18th) – both sold-out within 24 hours as Nina prepares to make a long-awaited return to live shows. Nina also recently confirmed details of a major North American tour with James Arthur this April and May. Please see her official site for a full list of tour dates and ticket information.
She adds, “I’m so excited to play my first headline gigs in over two years. They’ll be intimate events and I’ll be debuting some new songs from the upcoming album. Something I’ve missed is seeing your reactions to my songs, so I can’t wait to see how these ones go down.”
‘When You Lose Someone’ provides a taste of what to expect from Nina’s eagerly anticipated third album, which will follow later this year. It follows the huge global fanbase she established with her second album ‘The Sun Will Come Up, The Seasons Will Change’. That project accumulated over 530 million streams, including 100 million+ for the Radio 1 playlisted ‘The Best You Had’ – a song that won over famous fans led by Taylor Swift and Chloë Grace Moretz.
‘The Sun Will Come Up…’ and its subsequent deluxe edition elevated Nina to a place in Spotify’s Top 500 artists in the world as while her tracks have featured on over a thousand of the platform’s playlists. Her growing global reputation was further emphasised when she was named by Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech for the Woman of the Decade Award at Billboard’s Women in Music event. Nina would go on to win her own Women in Music Award, this time at the 2021 Scottish Music Awards.
Other highlights of 2021 included hitting #1 on TikTok UK’s Hot 50 with ‘Summer Fling’, collaborating with Seeb on ‘Sweet Dreams & Dynamite’ (which was also remixed by The Stickmen Project), and headlining the first ever Metaverse Festival alongside deadmau5 and Paris Hilton. She was also included in The Edinburgh Evening News’ Hot 30 list of the people who have shaped politics, sport and culture in 2021, while Liam Payne namechecked her performance during his #TheLPShowAct4 show as one of his highlights of the year in his recent newsletter to fans.
