Last week finally saw the MOBO-nominated Keisha White officially release ‘Someday’ – almost twenty years after it originally emerged in 2002 as the opening theme to the CBBC TV hit ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’. Its release was accompanied by an official video which reunited the ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’ cast for the first time in 19 years. Original cast members Dani Harmer (Tracy Beaker), Nisha Nayar (Elaine the Pain) and Chelsie Padley (Louise), were joined by Emma Davies, who plays Tracy’s daughter Jess in the current CBBC show ‘My Mum Tracy Beaker’.
Hailing from London, Keisha White first came to prominence as a teenager. When she was just 14, she auditioned for Warner Bros. Records and her stunning a cappella performance of Aretha Franklin’s ‘If You Should Lose A Good Thing’resulted in her immediately signing to the label.
In 2003, she hit the charts for the first time when she featured on house legend Paul Oakenfold’s Top 40 hit ‘The Harder They Come’ alongside Tricky. She returned to the charts by collaborating with the American rapper Cassidy on ‘Don’t Care Who Knows’, before releasing her debut album ‘Seventeen’ in 2005. The album resulted in a MOBO nomination for Best New Female Artist and included her Top 20 solo hit ‘The Weakness In Me’. A second album, ‘Out of My Hands’, and several singles followed. She has also shared stages with iconic artists ranging from The Black Eyed Peas to Craig David.
