Matching the grit and gloss of her genre-clashing sound with an outspoken authenticity, OZ is emerging as a hot tip without compromising any of her individuality. Her early tracks have hit countless key playlists at Spotify (3x New Music Friday), Apple (Breaking Pop, Alt Pop), Amazon (Breakthrough UK) and Deezer (Fresh Pop, Brand New UK). They’ve been joined by tastemaker support from Popjustice, The Line of Best Fit and Wonderland, plus initial airplay from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio.
OZ now shares the biggest statement of her career so far with her debut EP ‘Jupiter’, which is out now on Truth Records.
The ‘Jupiter’ EP is completed by her recent singles ‘Money’, ‘Murder’ and ‘Foot Down’, which span empowerment, truth and self-discovery. OZ recorded the EP alongside her regular collaborators Biff Stannard (Ellie Goulding, Kylie, Spice Girls) and Ash Howes (Annie Lennox, Dido).
The strength of character that pulsates throughout OZ’s music is surely the product of her unconventional background. She was raised in pre-gentrified Soho, where her family ran a pizzeria populated by larger-than-life characters: a bohemian/seedy mix of gangsters, drag queens, actors and sex workers. OZ signed a major label deal as a teenager, but their aims clashed – the label wanted a pre-packaged pop star, while OZ felt closer in spirit to Alanis Morrissette. Instead, she developed a reputation as an in-demand songwriter before developing her current sound.
