Samantha Preis
Following up her folk/jazz inflected album Good News, Samantha Preis brings us a new pop single that combines jazz with some funky grooves. Teaming up with T.O.N.E-z, the new single “Love You Better” takes a luscious jazz melody into a more urban setting, as T.O.N.E-z lays down a counter-point rap. Downbeat and sedate in instrumentation, her vocals are the real highlight here, a smooth, assertive rendering of biting lyrics about a relationship. Even as her smoky voice proclaims her love, the soulful T.O.N.E-z justifies his position. Consequently the song is a perfect blending of styles that I hope she continues on her next album.
