The news that Scouting For Girls will release ‘The Place We Used To Meet’, their first all-new album in more than four years, received a welcome rush of attention from fans. Sparking a buzz across the band’s socials, it also resulted in numerous shows during their autumn headline tour either quickly selling-out or leaving minimal tickets remaining several months in advance. It positioned the indie-pop trio to build upon a hugely successful career which has encompassed four Top 10 singles, four Top 10 albums, 2 million sales and more than a billion streams, plus four BRIT Awards and an Ivor Novello.
Now Scouting For Girls further fuel that anticipation as they share the album’s first official single ‘The Missing Part’. It’s a song which takes the insanely catchy style of the trio’s biggest hits and sets their pop addictiveness to stun. With insistent disco-tinged handclaps, a pogoing pop bounce and lyrics which playfully capture the serious business of having your life changed by love, ‘The Missing Part’ feels like it should’ve been part of the Scouting For Girls setlist since their early days.
Roy Stride says, “‘Missing Part’ is the most upbeat, fun, catchy song we’ve written since ‘She’s So Lovely’. That’s the vibe we were trying to capture. It’s the first song we’ve ever written with our new touring guitarist Nick Tsang. Nick has taken our live show to another level and has played with Ed Sheeran, Backstreet Boys, Jess Glynne, Sigrid and Busted! And this song is very much Scouting for Girls meets Busted meets Sigrid.
I still get excited everytime I play it, and my kids say it’s the best song I’ve ever written. They’re desperate for us to be big on something called TikTok and say this is the perfect song for it. I don’t know about TikTok but I can’t wait to play it on the upcoming November tour alongside all our other indie anthems.”
Scouting For Girls first introduced ‘The Place We Used To Meet’ by sharing its title track. Adding a twang of nostalgic Nashville Americana to their core indie-pop sound, it’s a song that reflects upon a universal truth. As the years pass nothing seems to change, until suddenly everything is different and some things are lost forever.
Still featuring the original line-up of Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard, Scouting For Girls re-emerged fully revitalised at the start of 2022 after two tumultuous years. They were reunited and it felt so good: enjoying every moment of writing and recording new music, leading to their best collection of songs to date; loving being back with their fan community for shows; and the simple joy of being back with old friends. Roy’s new-found focus also led to him writing for other artists, notably Jax Jones and Calum Scott’s recent Silver-certified Top 15 hit ‘Whistle’.
