The Magnettes
With new material, a European tour and special performances at SXSW and Eurosonic, The Magnettes are going to be having a busy year in 2018. To start things off right, check out the new single “Young and Wild”, the acoustic version. The earlier version from the Ugly Youth album is a sweet, synth-laden piece of pop that pulses with an infectious beat and melody. Because they move to acoustic guitar and piano, there seems to be more of a ballad feel to the tune. The voices of Sanna Kalla and Rebecka Digervall achieve a more intimate texture that is more emotional than the original. Consequently, the punkish, bad girl attitude falls to the side to express a far richer tone. I’m looking forward to 2018 and the Magnettes’ music it will bring.

The Magnettes were founded in Pajala, Sweden and have crafted their own blend of ELECTRO-POP and RIOT GRRRL PUNK. After a 2015 performance at SXSW in Austin, TX the band signed with label Digsin/Universal, where their debut album Ugly Youth was released in 2017. Their latest single “Young & Wild” premiered on prime-time TV and spent the summer in top rotation on Swedish radio. The Magnettes have been praised by sites and tastemakers like Earmilk, Perez Hilton, Popcrush and Elle Sweden. So far the band have toured in over 10 countries. New material, performance at Eurosonic Noorderslag in Holland, a tour of Europe and their second appearance at SXSW are all in store for 2018.
