The Norwegian electronica duo Seeb are one of the dominant forces in dance music, having delivered one of the biggest moments of the era with their all-conquering remix of Mike Posner’s ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’ as well as big collabs with Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran. Now they’re back after a year of hiatus with the long awaited new single ‘Be Like That’, which features JP Cooper. The two artists both have their own huge global following, with 10.6 million monthly listeners at Spotify for Seeb and another 7.6 million for JP Cooper.
‘Be Like That’ is instantly euphoric and therefore unmistakably Seeb. Bringing energising and hyper-fluorescent trance elements into their chart-bound house sound brings something fresh to their style. Meanwhile JP Cooper’s inimitable soulful vocal is tinged with nostalgia as he delivers melancholy lyrics about a love that couldn’t last. Together they create a track that finds the sweet spot between appreciating something that is now only a memory – a perfect atmospheric feel as summer heads into autumn.
Seeb commented, “We have been wanting to work with JP ever since we heard the haunting single he had a few years ago, ‘Sing It With Me’, that he released with our friend Astrid S. When the idea for ‘Be Like That’ came along, it finally clicked. We couldn’t meet in London, so we ended up recording vocals remotely. JP was in his garage studio, which doesn’t have internet, so he kept running back and forth to his house with files to jump on Zoom calls with us. It was a bit chaotic, but it turned into one of the most fun and unusual recording sessions we’ve ever done, and somehow it worked out perfectly.”
JP Cooper added, “When Seeb sent me the track, it immediately resonated with me. It had that rare mix of melancholy and uplift, and I knew straight away it was something we had to do together.”
‘Be Like That’ was produced by Seeb and Marcus Wiley, the two parties having co-written the song with JP Cooper and collaborators including Gary Go (Galantis, Rag N Bone Man, Klingande) and solo artist KOATES.
Gary Go said, “KOATES and I frequently meet to explore ideas and we always seem to come back to feelings of loss, longing and a shy sense of hope. That deep sense of wonder if it could ever be like it was. The melancholy in us sadly already knows the answer, but that doesn’t stop the wonder of forever asking the question. Could it ever be like that again?”
Global hitmakers Seeb – Simen Eriksrud and Espen Berg – have countless international Gold and Platinum hits to their name. Their big breakthrough came with ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’ which changed the remix game, being the first to exceed abillion streams on Spotify (it has since surpassed 2.2 billion) and becoming the 29th most streamed track of the 2010s. In addition to their huge remixes, their own tracks have shot to attention such as ‘Rich Love’ and ‘Breathe’ as they continue to be a global force in the electronica world.
Like Seeb, JP Cooper has some mega hits to his name, led by the 3 x Platinum UK smash ‘September Song’ and the UK #2 hit ‘Perfect Strangers’, his collaboration with Jonas Blue. Beyond their domestic success, both tracks were unmissable on a global scale, too, and have exceeded a combined total of 2 billion streams at Spotify alone. He has spent recent months building towards the October 3rd release of his eagerly anticipated new album ‘Just A Few Folk’
