The Grahams’ story is that of two lives lived well together: a relationship which dates back to childhood which led them to start an accomplished musical project and found their multifaceted 3Sirens Music Group in Nashville. All these decades later, they’re still together and strong – and the latest chapter of their tale comes with their most personal album, ‘The Bridge’ which will be expanded with the release of a Deluxe Edition on March 6th. Now Alyssa and Doug Graham put the spotlight back on the album by sharing the single ‘The Worst Parts Of Me’.
While ‘Worst Parts Of Me’ highlights The Grahams’ playful side and ability not to take themselves too seriously, it also shares an undeniable truth – any long-term relationship is as much about overcoming shared challenges rather than simply celebrating the highs. Those lyrics are supported by a song of blissful vocal harmonies and warm piano melodies that echoes prime Carole King.
Alyssa says, “After three decades of a love affair and partnership, people always ask us our ‘secret’. For years we claimed our rare success was attributed to having no children. ‘Don’t have kids,’ we would joke. Upon further reflection we now understand our secret is deeper than that. To truly love someone in this life and beyond you need to love not only the best but the worst parts of them.”
That background to the song is sweetly ironic since The Grahams are proud parents to a daughter, who inspired their previous single ‘Georgette’. That track earned fresh UK attention with airplay from Amazing Radio, an interview with Northern Exposure, and coverage from country/folk tastemakers such as Americana UK.
The two songs showcase the recent evolution in The Grahams’ songwriting. Their previous albums mixed travelogue adventures with voyeuristic stories of the people they met along the way, but with ‘The Bridge’ they instead went hyper-personal and tapped into the thoughts that had previously been kept close to their heart. The Grahams’ vision for the album will be extended with the release of the new Deluxe Edition on March 6th. It will add two brand new songs from the album’s studio sessions, as well as a new edit of ‘Georgette’. Pre-save HERE.
The album’s accomplishment was assisted by an array of top tier collaborators. The duo wrote the majority of its songs with the Grammy-nominated producer Dex Green (Elvis Costello, Shemekia Copeland) as well as another Grammy nominee, Aaron Lee Tasjan, and Kate York (acclaimed solo artist and the key songwriter on the TV hit ‘Nashville’). The performers are just as exemplary, with Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam, David Bowie), Sebastian Steinberg (Fiona Apple, Dianne Krall), Ray Jacildo (The Black Keys), Rob Burger (Iron & Wine, John Zorn) and Patrick Warren (Bob Dylan, Lana Del Rey) all featured.
It’s now just a matter of weeks until The Grahams bring the songs of ‘The Bridge’ to the UK for the first time with a headline tour.
