Brooklyn-based, Folk-Americana group, The Morning Sea are proud to release their fourth album, Half Keys. The new album follows the group’s 2018 album Destruction Songs, 2016 album Mal De Mer and 2014 album S trange Captive. The Morning Sea’s new album was recorded in band member and multi-instrumentalist, Sonny Ratcliff’s, Brooklyn bedroom, using entirely acoustic instruments and mostly first or second takes.
What started as a simple project of recording singer, Adam Cohen’s, latest songs with just his voice and a rusting national resonator guitar became a lush and heart-wrenching album that tells a story of love lost and dealing with the aftermath.
The Morning Sea has a self-described Gotham-Americana sound, as the group incorporates folk, rock, and blues with a sprinkling of Brooklyn grit. On Half Keys, the typically raucous band shows a different but equally strong voice using found percussion, banjo, mandolin, and a string section.
Songwriter / frontman, Adam Cohen, started The Morning Sea as a solo project in 2013, but the project quickly flourished into a full-fledged band with the help of a talented crew of New York City musicians, notably including Cohen’s long-time collaborator, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Sonny Ratcliff.
The band has since gone on to create three previous albums, multiple singles and videos, and have played countless shows at New York City’s most prominent venues. Their prior records have received tremendous praise from numerous publications, and Half Keys’ first single, “Listen Love” has received two Independent Music Awards.
