THE UNDERACHIEVERS RETURN AFTER 5-YEAR HIATUS WITH NEW EP, HOMECOMING

After a five-year hiatus, Brooklyn-bred hip-hop duo The Underachievers are making their long-awaited return with Homecoming, their first full-length project since 2018 via SLANG.

Known for their psychedelic soundscapes, introspective bars, and spiritual undertones, The Underachievers—comprised of Issa Gold and AKTHESAVIOR—are emerging from silence with a project that is both a reflection on their artistic journey and a declaration of what’s to come. Homecoming serves as a mirror to the years they’ve spent in service to their craft and community, while also laying the foundation for a powerful new era in their creative evolution. The album delivers hypnotic textures, rapid-fire lyricism, and a clarity of vision that makes it one of their most complete and mature bodies of work to date.

The nine-track project features previously released singles that have already generated excitement across streaming platforms and social media. “Brand New,” was accompanied by a striking visual portraying Issa and AK as collectible action figures—an artistic nod to both their enduring cultural impact and the new legacy they’re building. This clever juxtaposition of nostalgia and innovation sets the tone for a project rooted in self-awareness and reinvention.

Prior to that, the duo released “Have Nots” in October, a track produced by Issa Gold himself.  The track caught widespread attention, including features from tastemakers like On The Radar, where related posts saw more 1,400 comments, and 4,400 shares across platforms. The release also earned Issa a spot on the Splice Producer list, further highlighting his ability to shape a distinctive sonic identity not only as an emcee but also as a producer. The group’s reintroduction included the thunderous “Megatron“, which featured a compelling visual that captured the tension between luxury and routine within the iconic rhythm of New York City life. “Megatron” digs deep into themes of self-mastery, consciousness, and the duo’s journey from struggle to spiritual and material success.

Homecoming also features a guest appearance from Brooklyn legend DJ Enuff, adding a layer of hometown authenticity and generational synergy to the project. The Underachievers’ commitment to their roots has also been reflected in recent live appearances.
During New York Fashion Week the duo performed at a special One Night Only event in collaboration with local designer GianiNYC, bringing their Flatbush flair to an elevated runway experience. They reunited with longtime friends Flatbush Zombies for an explosive performance in Los Angeles—further cementing the enduring power of the Beast Coast movement.

The return of The Underachievers has not gone unnoticed by digital curators. Tracks from Homecoming have been added to major editorial playlists, including Apple Music’s Red Bull Basketball MixHip-Hop WorkoutUnderground Hip-Hop EssentialsBARS, and BASE: LINE. On Spotify, they’ve been featured on Alternative Hip-HopRap RisingSongs You Need In Your Life (The FADER), Fresh N Dope, and boom bap/chill rap by Dadswell, signaling a warm embrace from both fans and gatekeepers alike.

The duo’s impact over the past decade is undeniable. Their 2015 project Evermore: The Art of Duality debuted at #9 on the Billboard US Rap Charts and #10 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop Charts. Their 2014 debut studio album Cellar Door: Terminus ut Exordium also made a strong impression, charting at #11 on US Rap#16 on US R&B/Hip-Hop, and #86 on the overall Billboard Albums Chart.

With Homecoming, The Underachievers are not just back—they’re ascending. Refreshed, refocused, and more fearless than ever, Issa Gold and AKTHESAVIOR are poised to once again disrupt the status quo and push the boundaries of hip-hop artistry.
