Thy Veils
Neoradiant is the new project being explored by Romanian band Thy Veils, a concept that bridges multiple mediums. You should expect an album, stage shows, comics, installations, photography and even a science fiction film. From this new work, the 4th single/video, “In Brightness”, has been released. A visual treat, “In Brightness” juxtaposes performance footage with a colorful palette of sci-fi styled images. With a Blade Runner feel to the images of cityscapes, star fields and fractal animations, I felt transported to another realm. The haunting voice of Alira Mun blends perfectly with the electronic textures. Particularly notable, a smooth trumpet glides over the keyboard musings of leader Daniel Dorobanțu. Performing with sincerity and skill, the band present a hope for the future while exploring here and now. A crisp, clear production is accompanied by innovative sonic explorations. Also playing in the band:
Manuela Marchiș – voice
Radu Pieloiu – drums, percussion
Ana Telea – guitar
Petre Ionuțescu – wind instruments
Georgiana Feidi – photography
Anita Ramona – stylist
A sense of light and revelation
It would be easy to label them as electronica, but there is much more going on here. Various percussion is utilized across the broad spectrum of jazz, space and ambient music. Also, as is appropriate, a sense of light pervades the entire song. From the bright synth flourishes to the sharp cymbals, “In Brightness” feels like a sun-filled revelation. All this despite the relative darkness of the video. While many bands are content to reveal themselves with the music, Thy Veils uses all the tools of the entertainment trade. Because I like their positive outlook and skilled theatricality, I highly recommended this band. Also, be sure to check out the previous three installments of Neoradiant.
