With first single of the year, ‘Canada Fur’ now sitting at1.2 million views on YouTube and 2.5 million streams on Spotify, YXNG DAVE now returns to prove that he’s one of the most exciting young prospects in UK rap right now, with fiery bilingual cut ‘Colombiano’ – the second offering from upcoming project ‘Famoso’.
First making major waves in the scene, opening BL@CKBOX’s U18’s Cypher (now sitting just shy of 1.3 million views), DAVE has left no doubt from the onset that he was ‘one to watch’, showcasing impressive versatility and an explosive delivery. With the incredible success of latest single ‘Canada Fur’ setting the stage for a massive few months ahead, the young rapper has been busy collecting a number of impressive accolades for his efforts. First securing the BBC intro track of the weekvia 1xtra, leading to over 100 radio plays via stations including Kiss Fresh (also earning himself a playlist inclusion), Radio 1, Kiss FM and more.
YXNG DAVE’s impressive catalog hasn’t gone unnoticed by the heavy hitters either, going on to earn him a range of high-profile admirers including UK rap and pop icon Dappy, as well as rapper, boxer, YouTuber and all round megastar KSI. These cosigns have seen the young artist go on to support the former N-Dubz frontman at Birmingham’s O2 Institute in November last year. With KSI on the other hand, taking YXNG DAVE on his UK tour – which saw the young up and comer opening at the iconic, 12,500 capacity Wembley Arena. In fact, KSI was such a fan, YXNG DAVE became the first artist he signed to his OTO record label.
“Colombiano” is YXNG DAVE’s highly anticipated second release, which shows the hot prospect exhibiting his impressive talent and versatility, not only switching effortlessly between Spanish and English, but also between a hard hitting rap delivery and dynamic melodic singing. The bouncy and energetic track also perfectly showcases DAVE’s trademark hazy and deep vocals which, combined with a laid back flow, comfortably and satisfyingly hits the pockets of the instrumental with ease. “Colombiano” is more than a classic summer rap banger, it’s also a personal celebration of YXNG DAVE’s recent success, with the artist truly feeling himself as he boasts about his accomplishments as a young up and comer with the world at his fingertips.
With such a unique heritage being the catalyst for his sound, Dave feels strongly about how his upbringing has affected his music. He explains: “Hailing from Spain and Columbia made me want to mix the languages and dialects with English as they are all just as important to me,” he continues. “My family lives there and I go back to visit both places a lot. When I’m there, I visit family, see music, eat food, connect with locals and friends, and soak up the culture. When I come back, I can show it in my music. Going back to Columbia and Spain always inspires me to be creative and take new approaches to my writing.”
Getting ready to release his aforementioned debut EP Famoso later this year, and his headline show at the O2 Islington on November 24th, “Colombiano” is yet another step in the correct direction for Dave, as he continues his inevitable rise towards the top of the UK rap scene.
