Sydney songwriter Georgia Mulligan couples meloncholy with righteous anger on new single ‘Mirror’, which will sit neatly in her forthcoming sophomore EP of the same name out at the end of the year.
Mulligan’s ability to write emotive, vulnerable songs is once again on display in the impassioned ‘Mirror’. Documenting a moment of turmoil the track begins as a delicate, slow burn, building into a piercing crescendo of emotions.
Speaking of the reflective writing process, she says “Initially I wrote it as a stream-of-consciousness rant, it touches on feelings of betrayal, of the fragile nature of trust and how quickly your idea of someone can come crashing down.” She continues “I wanted it to feel like a cathartic burst of anxious energy…with a tinge of righteous anger (ha ha…)”
‘Mirror’ follows the release of ‘So Long’, ‘The Dark’, and ‘Over Now’ which will all feature on her upcoming EP out later in the year and and garnered support in the online world with profiles on The Brag and Happy Mag.
Exploring ideas of emotional tragedy, her debut EP ‘Our Blood To Part’ found fans in radio with adds to rotation on FBi Radio and 2SER, and regular spins on triple j.
At home on the stage Georgia Mulligan’s compelling list of performances includes supporting Julia Jacklin and Eleanor Friedburger (US) alongside coveted sets at Fairgrounds Festival, St Kilda Fest and BIGSOUND 2018. Impressed with her live capabilities, Julia Jacklin invited her to support her on the recent UK tour.
Georgia’s in-the-moment storytelling along with stoic, yet tender voice ensures she stands out in a crowded genre. With more music on the way, this year will cement her emotive presence.
