LA-based Synthwave producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Droid Bishop is set to share a remix of I’MMORTAL‘s third single, ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’, on the 6th of September 2024 via the Immortality imprint. Droid Bishop is known for his 80s-inspired electronic music, destined to be enjoyed by fans of Gunship, Kavinsky and The Midnight. He has seen support from Earmilk, New Retro Wave, Neon Nights, LuigiDonatello, and Quantum Dream, racking up over 9 million plays on Spotify with features on Spotify’s popular “Retrowave/ Outrun” Playlist.
I’MMORTAL is a New York and London-based genre-blending music producer, vocalist, visual artist, and creative director. I’MMORTAL launched herself into the digital sphere in August 2023 with the release of her debut tech-house single, ‘Versace Spaceship’. Her recent singles received support from notable tastemakers WONDERLAND Magazine, Metal Magazine, CLASH Magazine, and EARMILK to name a few. With a sound influenced by Sevdaliza, Britney Spears, Lady GaGa, Lana Del Rey, Bjork, SOPHIE and many other femme avant-pop luminaries.
The original single was produced by I’MMORTAL herself, with additional production by Danis Zhang and additional drum programming by Duanna. The track was mixed and mastered by Mikaelin “Blue” Bluespruce (Solange, Blood Orange, Carly Rae Jepsen). The song opens as a brooding anthem with a catchy hook, trap drums and cinematic pop strings, switching down to a glitchy, trippy second half that sees I’MMORTAL hazily repeating the refrain, her vocals becoming more distorted with every repetition.
Droid Bishop’s interpretation of the track is coated in the neon glow of his signature 80s retrofuturism. I’MMORTAL’s trap beats and cinematic strings are swapped out for lush synth swoops, a slow-burn pulsing bassline, hypnotic arpeggios and languid vintage drum machines.This synthwave take on ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’ retains I’MMORTAL’s glitchy horror, but could easily be slotted into the Bladerunner soundtrack, leaving the listener in a haunted daze.
Bishop shared: “I always love remixing and find it to be musically rewarding, especially when an original track like ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM‘ is so unique and creative with its dreamlike tempo changes and shifts in mood. This one pushed me to think a bit outside the box while still retaining a tangible groove to keep the listener moving.”
