Die Blonde
Emerging from the Wilds, a sibling duo, Die Blonde deliver a rootsy, earthy brand of rock music that doesn’t sacrifice precise playing. The band delivers their new five song EP ‘Novato’ this year. The power and intensity of their music shines with this release. With the swampy vocal delivery and a driving rhythm section, none of the songs would be out of place on a True Blood soundtrack compilation. The album is also pervaded by an Appalachian feel.
Not unlike their various influences (Merle Haggard, Chrissie Hynds, Townes Van Zandt, Rolling Stones), Die Blonde deliver the loneliness, despair and grittiness of “Lonely Road” with authenticity and honesty. The title track “Novato”, a lengthy, murder tale that slithers into your system and takes up residence, is the real treat. Most of all, the song sets up an eerie resonance that showcases the EPs’ strongest playing and vocals.
Furthermore the song “LA and Nashville” showcases a more mainstream sound while still prodding the underbelly of Americana. “Dirty Rotten Son” features a swinging beat and features another tasty guitar solo. Consequently the ‘Novato’ EP is a diverse mixture of country, rock and blues that has nary a weak tune.
‘Novato’ is available on Spotify.
Die Blonde is an American rock and roll band based in Austin, Texas. Spawned from singer-songwriters, Bob and May Wild, Die Blonde is rounded out by the instrumental technique of the remaining band. Die Blonde also features Neal Campbell, Chris Young and Austin Smith. Formerly known as “The Wilds”, the band’s beginnings can be summarized by the contributing musicians coming and going along the way.
In 2014, with his guitar and a whole mess of lyrics, Bob Wild was on a mission to start a band. While crashing on his sister May’s couch in Portland, Oregon, the pair birthed a creative routine reminiscent of their childhood. They started writing songs and reconnecting over music. The band Bob had come searching for was one he’d been a member of his entire life.
Bob and May relocated to Austin, Texas permanently that same year. Many interesting hindrances faced them. Due to a monolithic Christian organization and its arsenal of recordings published under their same name., a band name change became necessary. “The Wilds” gave way to a rebirth beyond just their name. Die Blonde represents a harder sound, a more resilient, unified group. Most noteworthy, they throw a growling side eye to the mainstream. Their first official release, Novato, is due out Sept. 1, 2017.
