Current Control
The 20th anniversary release of the EP Axis Distortions is now out in its first digital release. This early album of Current Control was originally recorded on tape. It retains that soft, warm analog feel much like early Cluster albums. This is especially notable on “Ambient Pur” with its array of older-sounding, retro synths. This is not a melody driven album, much more experimental, seeming like the Tangerine Dream classic Zeit. Yet with a distinct beat & rhythm that punctuates rather than dominates.
Dreamy, ambient and spacey defines the textures and soundscapes in such cuts as “Crystalline” and “No Brighter Night”. Finally, “Space Junk” really impresses with its otherworldly echoes. Axis Distortions is worth dipping into if you’re an electronica enthusiast for an impression of the past. And be sure to check out the more recent recording Spring Fever.
