Pull
The first single from Italian band Pull is a winner all the way around. Sleek production, a hook-laden melody and tight, precise playing highlight pop song “Recognize Me”. Almost a throwback to the 80s, they resemble a-ha or Men At Work with their strong, clear vocal style. The minimalist guitar work nicely accompanies the heavy bassline. It’s not that often a band has the courage to follow their muse to an easily recognizable sound in fear of stylistic imitation.
Because Pull is no 80s cover band, “Recognize Me” doesn’t really sound like a lavish tribute. Everything, from the percussive intro of Francesco Parisi to the repeated guitar lines of Amedeo Lasco, is understated. Consequently the band avoids the flamboyance associated with the decade. The group is polished with an obvious talent for accomplished songwriting. This kind of solid, tight pop song is so rare these days. Furthermore, high production qualities grace the accompanying video. All in all, an enjoyable song that portends more good work in the future.
