Zaritza
With influences as diverse as Rachmaninoff, Queen, Mendelssohn and Radiohead, the music of Zaritza is equally as diverse and compelling. Bringing her classical influences to the forefront with a romantic melodies, she infuses the music with a familiar pop/rock idiom that hearkens back to Bonnie Tyler, especially with her glorious voice. The debut album abounds with radio-friendly rockers like “Diseased” and “Flashing Lights” as well as romantic ballads like “Last Night”. Electro-pop is equally served as well by such tracks as “That Girl”. Of particular note are a couple of songs that really shine. The first is “Crossroads”, a beautiful piano/violin ballad sung in her native language. But the real stunner here is “Heart-Shaped Box”, the Nirvana classic rendered with strings, piano and vocals. She truly makes this song her own with her passionate, emotional vocals. An album well worth picking up.

Raised in a village near the Ural Mountains Zaritza left Russia to break from its cultural constraints. Highly-trained as a competition-winning classical pianist, she emigrated to the U.S. in pursuit of greater creative freedom and a career in music. In the years since, Zaritza has performed her original electro-pop/rock music at clubs and other venues around the Northeast. These include the Rainbow Room and the Metropolitan Room, as well as releasing her album at Drom in New York City. In addition, she opened for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on one of their U.S. tour dates. Last year, she was invited to share the story of her personal and musical journey in a TEDx conference presentation!
