| AHI has shared “Say It To Me,” a soaring, soulful meditation on the importance of not letting your voice be lost to adversity, and the power in knowing that you are counted and you will be heard. The final track written for Prospect (November 5, 22ND SENTRY/Thirty Tigers), “Say It To Me” emerged from the Toronto singer-songwriter’s own understanding of what it feels like to be isolated, unseen, and overlooked. On the new single and across the entire upcoming record, AHI channels his unique perspective as a courageous individual whospent years backpacking across the globe and exploring lessons on life and art from the remote corners of Ethiopia to the jungles of Trinidad. With his “original, soulful, and powerfully moving” (NPR Music) raspy vocals and introspective spirit, AHI promises to use his voice to help others find theirs. The “Say It To Me” visual, AHI’s directorial debut, balances thesimplicity of its one-take production with the emotional complexity of the song’s lyrics. Starring fellow Toronto singer songwriter Yasmine Shelton of folk duo Basset, the video’s main subject sings along to the words in a stirring outpouring of emotions. “At the end of the day, I just want to use my voice to help other people find theirs,” says AHI, whose face appears on the album cover here for the very first time. “I want to help people find meaning and purpose and fulfillment. I want to reassure them that they’re not alone.” Recorded in Nashville with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Paul Mabury, Prospect is bold and expansive, delivering onthe promise of AHI’s first two critically acclaimed records with a captivating, immersive sound that showcases the rawpower of his gravel-on-silk vocals like never before. Each track is similarly direct and fearless, blurring the lines betweenroots, folk, pop, and soul as AHI grapples with pain and healing, faith and resilience, connection and identity. In a careerthat’s included a Juno Awards nod, a prestigious NPR Tiny Desk concert, and performances at Radio City Music Hall andRed Rocks, AHI’s forthcoming album is perhaps even more profound than his resume. It’s a cathartic journey ofunderstanding and self-reflection that’s yielded the most revelatory, relatable, and fully-realized work of AHI’s career todate. |
