Portland-based producer FENRA unveiled his new single ‘EMERALDS‘ on 15 May 2026 via Base Layer Records. His 2025 Delusional EP garnered support from global tastemakers such as Magnetic Magazine, CLASH Magazine, Electronic Groove, and When We Dip.
FENRA is the electronic moniker of producer B Laws, who grew up surrounded by art and first fell in love with harmony while listening to hymns in church with his grandmother. After teaching himself guitar at 14 and later experimenting with synths, vocals, and drums in bands that toured across the US, Europe, and Asia, he is now channeling his experience into a new artistic chapter. Drawing inspiration from pioneers like Caribou, Four Tet, Floating Points, Bonobo, and DJ Koze, FENRA crafts music that bridges the cinematic with the deeply personal.
On ‘EMERALDS‘, fractured percussion and rich granular textures interlock to form the track’s restless, hypnotic backbone. Intricately arranged, the song blooms and evolves throughout its two-and-a-half minute runtime. Aligning with the ethereal realms of left-field and atmospheric electronica, the track occupies a cinematic space shared by Burial, Jon Hopkins, and Bicep. An introspective contemplation, ‘EMERALDS‘ avoids the clichéd tropes of commercial dance and EDM in favor of a spacious, mood-driven environment that transcends typical lo-fi or pop-crossover territory. The track builds to a powerful close, swirling synth textures and UK garage-inspired percussion converging into a charged, cinematic finale. ‘EMERALDS‘ is sure to strike a chord with fans of Burial, Four Tet, and Synkro.
FENRA shared: “‘EMERALDS‘ started with some chords and vocal fragments that I kept sampling, resampling, and reshaping until it became almost like a living texture underneath the track. I intentionally kept the drums soft and distant because I wanted the song to feel less like a traditional dance record and more like a small atmospheric world you could disappear into.”
