FRANK JAMES Releases ‘Killah’ Single & Video

Frank James is the perfect combination of raw emotion, sharp lyricism and charisma. Killah is the latest indie-folk offering from the New Zealand native.

Shackled to an unusual hip-hop inspired beat and driven by James’s raw vocals and steel string guitar its indie-folk as you haven’t heard it before: effortlessly edgy, stripped down and sultry. Killah is latest single off James’s debut release The Hopecity EP which was recorded and produced in London by Brendan Davies.

“I really wanted to emphasise the power a woman can have on you with this track not just lyrically but sonically too the way they can draw you in that’s the guitar, the chaos they can cause that’s the beat and although you know you should leave because it just might kill you, you stay that’s the hook” – Frank James

Now based in Melbourne James spent the majority of 2016 and 2017 in London honing his craft and developing his own potent brand of soulful indie-folk. Armed with nothing but a guitar and his songs one might be quick to put him in a box but to do so would be a mistake.

Citing influences such as Johnny Cash and James Brown, you do get a somewhat familiar feel from the young songwriter, but there’s something else going on here. Lightening fast lyrics laced with husky howls and addictive hooks, James’s love for hip-hop begins to shine through. Pair that with a ridiculous knack for melody and now you’ve got something to chew on…taste good? You bet your sweet ass it does!
