Galapaghost

Inspired by the Orlando massacre at the Pulse nightclub, “Pulse” by Galapaghost opens their latest album. Hauntingly adorned with expressive guitar embellishments atop the gloomy melody, the song speaks of the confusion surrounding this type of tragedy. Especially the inevitability that the cycle will continue. The voice of Casey Chandler is a soulful constant on Pulse, a gentle guide into some dark territory.

Besides the title track, which is out now, the other ten tracks weave through his dissatisfaction with current American culture, as well as introspection of his own life. The styles utilized vary throughout the album, some songs awash in synth waves before focusing on acoustic guitar (“Pinerolo”). Others, like “B.L.T.”, sway with a swing influence, while “Woke Up On The Wrong Side of the Earth Today” has a distinct country/Americana ambience.

A grittier release than before…

Overall, this album has an earthy tone, dissimilar to his previous releases. Chandler says, “A recurring effect we used on the album was distortion on the drums and delay on the vocals to give it a grittier feel than my previous albums.”  Be sure to pick up the album when released, but in the meantime you can enjoy “Pulse” on Spotify, Bandcamp or Soundcloud.
