Granular

Granular are a Lucerne quartet that specializes in a calm, sedate pop that is reminiscent of 70s soft rock combined with electronica. Formed in 2011, the band was formerly known as Augustine’s Suspenders.  Amidst the swirling synths and low-key percussion, the smooth vocal harmony dominates the tracks of their new album XI.  Two newly released singles, “Ewe” and “Try”, glide along with ease and precision, almost hypnotizing you.  As a result, XI is a perfect album to slip on for romantic evenings or just some serious relaxing.

The melancholic “I Need You” is a beautiful love song that benefits from the minimalistic approach the band takes.  “All Again” features some nice, gentle guitar refrains, while “Youth” will have you swaying with its slow dance beat.  The lyrics are very impressionistic and evocative of a dreamy European street scene, somewhat exotic, but still comforting.  And the melodies are rather memorable. Their new album is a pleasant listen with solid production with the attitude that sometimes less is more.  Check them out on Soundcloud.
