Heather Kenney, a North Carolina native, grew up playing guitar and piano in the Uwharrie National Forest. Pulling from influences like Melanie Safka, Led Zeppelin, Jewel, Alison Krauss and Keller Williams, Heather has developed an acoustic guitar-driven style that combines finger picking and rhythmic metal-pick strumming.
Heather’s songs often have a folksy twist, inspired by bluegrass musicians like her grandfather, who taught her how to play her first song on guitar and how to pick a banjo. Her musical background includes achieving Superior grades in the National Guild of Piano Teacher’s performance competition and original composition contest in piano and playing clarinet in North Carolina’s All-State Band. Today Heather mainly plays guitar, with a little banjo and ukulele thrown in to keep things interesting. As much as she enjoys playing music, Heather’s true love is songwriting. There’s always another story to tell.
