 Melisandre's Beaver

Melisandre’s Beaver is a fantastically fun punk band from Kent, UK.   They lean a little more towards the hardcore side of punk instead of pop-punk.  But they never take themselves too seriously.  They seem to have a Pythonesque sense of humor, especially when you scan their Facebook page, reading bizarre reviews of their music.  And their new EP No Offence Meant, Plenty Taken certainly continues that quirky attitude.

Watching MTV2 after school and the self-doubt of ever being as good as bands like The Vines and Sum 41 inform the lyrics of “Never Be That Cool”.  The rhythm section keep things nice and crunchy, while guitarist Dan Drew gives us a tasty solo. “That Girl” is much harder, a relentless, angry warning against a heartbreaker.  My favorite tune was “Out of Time”: fast and aggressive with a touch of despair.

The production on this EP is excellent, with a mix that draws your attention to the proper focus, whether it be Sam McNamara’s basslines or the intense drumming of Rob Studholme.  No Offence Meant, Plenty Taken is available on SpotifyBandCamp and Itunes.  I love this band and hope to hear more from them very soon.  For the record, Melisandre’s Beaver is just that cool!

Formed in early 2016, Melisandre’s Beaver are a 3 piece punk band from Kent, UK. They were named after a lengthy ‘you had to be there at the time’ joke from their mate Tom.  The band have been working hard to bring you tasty tunes you can jump and dance to. They’ve just released their debut EP, No Offence Meant, Plenty Taken. If they can also make you think or laugh or cry about that girlfriend/boyfriend that left you, well, that’s a bonus.
