Sleep Science

Blending the feel of Nirvana with progressive rock leanings Sleep Science present their latest single “Sound of the Underground”.  The lyrics express the struggle of daily  living and our seemingly unknown presence in the midst of many & plenty, amply visualised in the accompanying video. While a seething mass of people walk through the underground, they never glance at others around them.

Sounds of the Underground

A very grungy vibe permeates the tune as vocalist Taylor Nichol switches from melodic to harsher vocal styles.  The sharp guitar work establishes a melodic undercurrent before launching into a solo that underscores the desperate resignation of the lyrics.  Particularly notable, drummer Alex Moscrip keeps things rolling along with a vibrant, complex percussive palette.  Citing Muse as one of their influences, I also perceive a Dream Theater sound in the overall song structure.  As a result, this track is a harbinger of good things to come as they work on a new EP.

Sleep Science was formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2013.  After spending years in various bands and projects, vocalist/guitarist Taylor Nichol, bassist Dan Lomanaco and drummer Alex Moscrip started Sleep Science.  The band draws influence’s from progressive and alternative rock to create their sound.  In January 2014 they recorded their first EP Avoiding The Cure with Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Derrival, Little India).

The band started building a strong following locally with its unique sound and captivating live shows. In January 2016 they spent some time in LA to record their new single “Tears For The Money”. The song has been featured on radio all across Canada.  Also, it even struck a chord with Vancouver dj Todd Handcock who praised it is as being “the top 5 indie song of 2016”. Recently the band is fresh off a cross Canada tour and have made plans to tour even more extensively and record their next EP in 2017.
