Singer Songwriter TolumiDE, born in Toronto, raised in Lagos and currently in Washington – DC, announces the release of her new single “Beautiful”. The Nigerian R&B artist, TolumiDE, has been captivating audiences since her debut ‘My Love’ album release in 2010 which brought a refreshing sonic cross-cultural blend of Afro-pop Inspiration and Neo-Soul. Influenced by acts within R&B, Gospel and Classic Soul genres such as Sade, Brandy, India.Arie, and Africa Pop stars as, Onyeka Owenu and Christy Essien Igokwe, TolumiDE whose name translates as “Thank God” in Yorùbá, continues to soar as a Female Vocalist with a fresh ethnic sound. Bob Marovich of JGM describes her as “African polyrhythm, explosive techno and TolumiDE’s fetching African accent with lyrics that uplift, empower and inspire while remaining grounded in the realities of modern life”.

TolumiDE’s smooth vocals in “Beautiful” awakens the song with a soulful energy, synthesized bass and ethnic rhythm. She expresses the heartfelt characteristics of genuine friendship and love with English lyrics and the phrase “Ore Mi” which means ‘My friend” in Yoruba language. There’s a sense of joy and affirmation that makes it impossible not to sing along. Drawing inspiration from her personal experience, she shares “I wrote the song feeling really grateful for my friends”. Beautiful, the second single and follow up to her summer tune Your Arms, is an enlightening expectation for TolumiDE’s sophomore November 2019 album release Suya Soul’ – a phrase she coined to describe her endeavor to compliment soul music with her African heritage using bilingual lyrics and dynamic rhythms.

Born in Toronto and raised in Lagos, TolumiDE (pronounced toe-lu-mee-day) moved back to Canada at the age of 18 and became immersed in all forms of the creative arts while studying Fine Art at York University and singing with an all female reggae band. Shortly after moving to the United States to pursue a career in graphic design, TolumiDE solo performances began to bubble at open mics, festivals and weddings. She quickly garnered a following for her sweet vocal presence and intimate songwriting. She compliments soul music with a fusion of her Nigerian heritage and explores themes of life, love, laughter and inspiration with mainly English lyrics and a touch of African spice in form of rhythm and native Yorùbá language.

TolumiDE debuted with her EP Specialty, earning accolades to include a Nigerian Entertainment award for Best Female R&B artist, ‘My Love’ music video nomination for Channel O’s Most Gifted R&B award. With a range of performances that include headlining at the legendary Blue Alley in Washington, DC and show openings for Les Nubians, Toby Foyeh and Orchestra Africa, Salif Keita and P-Square, she’s working independently on the sophomore album “Suya Soul” (follow-up to debut full length My Love). TolumiDEhopes to invigorate soul music with a fresh ethnic sound that enlightens listeners about contemporary African culture and brings sentimental grooves to old and youthful audiences.
